Early Life in Education​

Andreas Vesalius went to Catholic Brothers of Common Life School for 9 years starting at age of 6

Vesalius learned arithmetic, Latin, and Greek at school, as well as Hebrew and other arts

At age 15 Vesalius went to Catholic University of Leuven to get an art degree and graduated in 1532

Vesalius was accepted into the University of Paris, the most prestigious medical school

He immediately started studying at the age of 19 in 1533

Vesalius’s education was mostly dominated with Galen of Pergamon’s writings who had been dead for 1300 years

Galen’s anatomical observations at that time came from dissecting animals, so observations were not accurate

Johann Guinter von Andernach and Jacobus Sylvius were his instructors who translated Galen’s texts into Latin

They allowed Vesalius to do his own dissections
