  • Immediately after he graduated from the University of Padua, he was offered the chair of surgery at the University of Padua

  • Much of Vesalius’ work was aimed at disapproving Galen’s work even though he was not conscious of this effect

  • Vesalius’ book De Humani Corporis Fabrica Libri Septem, was the first accurate and detailed study of the structure of human bodies

  • One of the Vesalius’ most significant innovations in the medical field was bloodletting, which was a common practice during his era

  • Vesalius died from Scurvy on the Greek Island of Zakynthos (some claim that he was trying to escape from the Spanish Inquisition)

  • Vesalius began as a “defender” of Galen’s studies but as he began to dissect more corpse, he began to notice that Galen had made many errors

  • Vesalius was born on the last day of the year, December 31, 1514 so he can never say, “My birthday is next year”.

  • His studies on the human skull and its features kick started the study of anthropology

  • He stated that the brain was the center of the human emotions and mind which went against the orthodox church who said the heart was the center

  • The location of his remains still remains a mystery today

  • Used executed dead bodies to study anatomy

  • Stole a body from a cemetery at age 16 to dissect
